After enduring over two years in shelters, leaving an abusive relationship, and battling breast cancer, Vanessa Jackson found a fresh start when she moved to New Hope Housing in 2018. Her path to stability was challenging, yet marked by resilience and determination.
While undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Vanessa, with the support of her case manager, discovered NHH Reed during its construction phase. In September 2018, she and her two children became some of the first residents to move into the community.
Vanessa deeply values the family-oriented environment at Reed. She appreciates that her children have access to essential resources, allowing them to branch out and build relationships with other children across the property.
Finding the right support system made all the difference in Vanessa’s journey. Therapy, group sessions, and family coaching gave her the tools to identify her needs and seek the help she needed. She reflects on this growth saying, “You don’t have to do everything alone. Be open to telling the right people what you need.”
